Modern Warfare 2's Multiplayer has always featured leveling up weaponry. Gold camo is unlocked after you master a weapon.
In Modern Warfare 2, getting a Gold camo for your weapons has changed slightly, but it should still be easy to get if you focus on one weapon at a time.
Under Multiplayer's Weapons tab, click Loadout. Tab up on the weapon in the Loadout to enter the Gunsmith.
When you go to the Customize tab, you'll see a separate section on the left called Weapon Mastery.
There are four squares, and each one shows a different camo that you can get when you finish the challenge that goes with it.
When you finish all four of these challenges, you not only get the four camo skins, but also the Gold camo for that weapon.
