League of Legends Worlds 2023: Dates, Schedule, Teams & more.

This year World’s 2023 will commence on a later date than it usually begins. This has been done to help professional esports players compete in the Asian Games in China.

The World’s 2023 tournament makes its return to South Korea after the country hosted the final stages of the 2014’s & 2018’s tournaments. Also, this marks the return of the tournament to be hosted in one country altogether, as last year, the tournament was split between two nations, i.e., the USA & Mexico.

Teams

Before we take a look at the Play in & Group Stages teams, One thing to note here is that there is a Qualifying match for the World’s 2023 named World’s Qualifying Series that will have a fourth seed from LSC & LEC. The final spot in the Play-in Stage will be awarded to the winner of the cross-region match.

Play In Stage

This Stage will start on October 10 & run till October 15 and consist of two rounds.

Round 1

  • Round 1 has 8 eight teams that are divided into double-elimination groups.
  • The top two teams from each group will advance to the Play-in in the second round.
  • All the matches in the Round 1 are Best of Five.

Round 2

  • In this round, the upper-bracket winners from each group will battle against the loser-bracket winner from the other group.
  • Both the matches are Best of Five, and the winners of these two matches advance to the Group Stage.

Swiss Stage

  • The Group Stage will start on October 19 & run till October 29.
  • In this group, 16 teams will compete in a five-round Swiss Stage.
  • In the first stage, teams are paired randomly with an opponent team from a different region, and then teams battle against the opponent that has the same win-loss record.
  • The teams need to win three matches to enter the Playoff, and the team that loses three matches is eliminated.
  • As evident, the progress & elimination matches are the best of the three matches. All the other remaining matches are best-of-one matches.

Playoffs Stage

  • The Playoff will begin on November 2 & run till November 29.
  • The Playoff will have 8 teams competing against each other in a single elimination bracket.
