Minecraft is easily one of the most successful game franchises in the world, with more than 140 Million active users since its release a decade ago.

The success of Mojang studios’ Minecraft is a result of the in-game features & the wide range of possibilities it offers to the players & the fact that it gets consistent regular updates, fixing issues & launching new features.

In July 2021, Minecraft came up with the 1.17 update (Caves & Cliffs 1), which introduced new in-game items & even the sustainable lava feature. Lava in Minecraft gets generally used for smelting & as an energy source for obvious reasons.

But before the July update, users were not able to create an infinite source for lava, or as it’s called, Minecraft lava farm.

Earlier, users had to obtain lava by searching for natural sources or from the nether world, where there were seas of lava. Then came the Caves & Cliffs update, enabling the players to create a renewable Minecraft lava farm. So how do you create a Minecraft lava farm or infinite lava source?

How to create a Minecraft lava farm?

The process is simple, but you’ll need a few raw materials before we can jump into the guide to make a Minecraft lava farm. The first item that you require is dripstones.

You’ll need to search for lush or dripstone caves (1.18 update) to get the pointed dripstones. Be careful while doing this process, as these spiky items are fatal for you (in case you haven’t equipped an armor). You can use a pickaxe.

The next thing you require for a Minecraft lava farm is a cauldron. For crafting one, follow these steps:

  1. Open your crafting table.
  2. You’ll need seven iron ingots.
  3. Place the iron ingots in the following manner & click on the output. That is a cauldron.

Also, get a few buckets of lava for the primary source of the Minecraft lava farm & non-flammable blocks (glass). That’s it. We are ready to create an infinite Minecraft lava farm.

  • Step 1: Place some cauldrons on the ground.

  • Step 2: Leave a block gap above the cauldrons & place the glass as shown in the picture. Add the lava into the space & make sure there’s no way for the lava to fall.

  • Step 3: Add the pointed dripstones to the gap that we left earlier below the glass.

  • Step 4: Now, you’ll observe the lava dripping into the cauldron & you have to wait for it to fill.

Voila! You’ve successfully crafted a Minecraft lava farm & now you can enjoy infinite lava in your world. Use a bucket for collecting the lava once the cauldron gets filled. As earlier discussed, you can use this lava as an energy source for smelting items in Minecraft (nearly 100 items).

The only negative thing about a Minecraft lava farm is the time it takes for the process to complete. So make sure you create multiple sources using numerous dripstones to avoid waiting for long hours for a bucket of lava.
