Fortnite’s split-screen mode is one of its most impressive additions. This means two players can play the game simultaneously at the same time without needing a second gaming console or any other equipment.

Sadly, split-screen play isn’t available on every platform. You cannot play Fortnite’s split-screen mode on a PC, Nintendo Switch, or mobile device.

What You Need to Play Split Screen on Fortnite

For split screen to work in Fortnite, you’ll need the following things:

  • A stable internet connection.
  • Two different epic Games accounts connected to two different Xbox or PlayStation accounts.
  • Need two controllers for your device.
  • To play on split-screen, both players must use the same language settings, as multi-language support isn’t available yet.

How to Do Split Screen on Fortnite

It’s easy to get a friend involved in the fun, and the process is the same for all compatible consoles. Following are the steps that you need to follow:

Step 1: Create a Second Account on Your Console

Make sure that you have access to more than one account on your console before connecting a second controller. Split screen won’t work if you only have one account.

Create a new account on PS4 by following these steps:

  • And choose Switch User.
  • Now select a new user.
  • Enter any name and password.
  • Then confirm new user.

Create a new account on Xbox One by following these steps:

  • From the main menu of your console, click on the user profile icon.
  • Then select Add New.
  • Click on Get a New Email Address.
  • Type any other e-mail address and confirm.
  • After that enter any name and password.
  • Log in with your log-in name.
  • then confirm the terms of use.

Step 2: Connect a Second Controller

After creating a new account, you can connect a second controller to your console. I assume you already know how to do this process.

Step 3: Enter the Lobby

As you enter the Fortnite lobby, on the bottom of the screen, a hint will tell you that you can connect to another Fortnite player by pressing “X” on PS4 and “A” on Xbox One.

Fortnite will ask you to log in as another user once you press the correct button. Now select the account you created earlier.

Then another player should appear in the lobby. If you want another player to control the menu, landing target, and cosmetics, press “X” on PS4 or “A” on Xbox One.

Note: It’s important to know that if one player disconnects, the game session automatically ends regardless of whether the other player remains connected. To craft and upgrade items, The player’s inventories will remain separate – which means you will still have to gather your own items.

Split Screen on Fortnite Limitations

First of all, you will need the right system to play Fortnite on the same screen with a buddy. According to the Fortnite FAQ published by Epic Games, split screen is currently only supported on Playstation and Xbox consoles.

Players on PC, Switch, and phones will have to wait until split screen functionality is extended to those platforms.

Additionally, split screen is only compatible with Duo or Squad game modes currently. At this time, Creative, LTM, Save the World, and Solos do not support split-screen gaming.

If you decide to play Fortnite with a friend, be sure to play on one of the two supported consoles and play in a game mode that supports it.

Tips For Playing In Split-Screen Mode

The downside of playing Fortnite on split-screen is that your screen size will be cut in half. This makes teamwork and communication important because you will often need to know what your teammate sees on the other end of the screen.

In split-screen mode, you can only view horizontally, and you cannot switch back to vertical mode. Co-operative play with friends may be OK if you prefer the horizontal view, but if you prefer a vertical view may find this difficult. If you are aware of this, the split-screen mode can be very fun and provide an introduction to Fortnite for friends.

By reading this article, you completely understand how to do split-screen on Fortnite. As you can see, I’ve covered everything you need to know to make sure you have the best experience when you play Fortnite in split-screen mode.

As I’ve already shown you, it is straightforward to set up, and you can get right into a game after turning on the second controller.
