Enchantments in Minecraft add more fun to your game. Enchantments can make fishing faster, add lighting to the attacks, and increase the speed of mining.
Though there are many weapons available in Minecraft, not all of them are compatible with each other. This guide will show you how to enchant Minecraft and make the best use of it.
How to Enchant in Minecraft?
Method 1: Use the Enchantment Table
One of the basic steps to enchant Minecraft is to make an enchantment table. For that, you need to obtain 5 diamonds (you will need a diamond pickaxe for 4 obsidian blocks, 2 diamonds) and a book.
However, finding diamonds can be one of the daunting tasks, as they are not easily available. You must dig below ‘Y’ level 16 and wait until the diamonds appear.
Also, one of the key things to note before mining the diamonds is ensuring no lava is around. This can burn the diamonds. Once you find the diamonds, go back to the crafting table and make a diamond pickaxe.
Now, you will need obsidian. The obsidian is formed when the lava comes in contact with the water in Minecraft. Usually, obsidian can be found in underground caves. If not, you can only mix a bucket of water and a bucket of lava to get the obsidian.
No matter whatever method you use, it is recommended to be careful while digging the obsidian with a diamond pickaxe, as it can turn the diamond pickaxe into ashes because of more lava underneath.
Now, you will need a book. This can be achieved by getting leather, 3 pieces of sugarcane, and paper each. You can find the sugarcane near the sand blocks that are adjacent to the water. Now, you can get the book by placing 3 pieces of paper and 1 leather in the crafting menu.
Now, you only need to craft the enchantment table. For this, you need to place the obsidian block in the middle slot, the last row also must be filled with the obsidian, and beside the obsidian placed in the middle, you need to place the diamonds.
Now, place a book on top of the middle-most obsidian (for reference, check the image below).
Now, to power your enchantment table, you will need 15 bookshelves. For crafting a bookshelf, you will need 6 wooden planks and 3 books for each bookshelf. In total, you will need 90 wooden planks and 45 books. You can either craft all of these yourself or take them from the villages.
Now that you have the bookshelves, you will need to arrange the spot for the enchantment table. You need to place the 15 bookshelves one block away from the table. This will unlock the enchantments of level 30.
In finding diamonds, you are likely to find lapis lazuli, an additional currency required for the enchantment in Minecraft. You will need 1 lapis lazuli for level 1 enchanting, likewise 2 for level 2, 3, and level 3 enchantments.
Though there can be a possibility to get more enchantments, you will usually only get those enchantments that the enchantment table shows. In terms of enchantments, the Gold items have good enchantments, while the book items have the worse.
If you do not like any of the enchantments, you can change that in the enchantment table by enchanting any item. You can enchant the items with any cheap cost enchantments. The table will then offer different enchantment items.
You can now choose which tools, armor, and weapons you would like to enchant and have them in your items list.
How much Does it Cost to Enchant Items in Minecraft?
There is no cost involved in the enchantment of the items. The only effort involved is the experience you gain in killing the mobs, mining the resources, etc.
However, while making the enchantments, you must be careful. If you are at a higher level and do a lower-level enchantment, you might fall down by several levels. Hence, it is recommended to work on better enchantments.
Method 2: Enchant Using Anvil
If you want to take your enchantments to the highest tiers, you need to use Anvil. Here, you can combine the enchanted items and optimize them. The cost of the items increases whenever you work on them.
In Anvil, you can combine the items that cannot obtain through the enchantment table. For example, mending cannot be obtained directly from the enchantment table. So, you can use the enchanted mending tool with the same material tool to get the bonus.
There are fortune II and unbreaking III pickaxes on the left, efficiency II and mending I pickaxe on the right. To upgrade the enchantments, you can combine similar enchantments.
By combining two pickaxes, as shown above, the item can be upgraded to fortune III. Sometimes the enchantment swapping might cost more or less.
Also, make sure that you are aware of the conflicting enchantments. Anvil will not allow certain combinations when you swap the enchantments.
Method 3: Enchant Through Commands
The final way to enchant Minecraft is through in-game commands. This works well if you have the cheats enabled. In the recent version of Minecraft, you can use the following syntax to enchant:
/enchant <targets> <enchantment> <level>
While using the command, ensure you know the items you hold. The enchantment does not work on armor.
Best Enchantments in Minecraft
Here are some of the basic enchantments which every player must be equipped with:
Mending: This is the best enchantment for tools and weapons. There will be a lot of wear and tear on tools when you use them in Minecraft. The repair cost also significantly increases. So, the ‘Mending’ enchantment repairs the weapons by using the XP Bubbles.
Unbreaking: This increases the durability of the items in Minecraft. You can spend a longer time with the tool rather than giving it to mending earlier.
Sharpness or Power: This increases the power of the weapons you are carrying around. Also, this increases the efficiency of the tools.
Feather falling and maxed-out protection are two other enchantments that you will need to reduce fall damage.
Conclusion
We hope this article has helped you understand how to enchant Minecraft with every option available. Though it is not easy to obtain highly powerful enchantments, you must keep trying by using any of the above-mentioned methods.
