After a slew of major delays and some internal issues, the next iteration in the Lord of the Rings franchise, i.e., Lord of Rings Gollum, will release on 22 June 2023, as revealed in its latest trailer.
Well, the game was originally planned for the 2021 release, but it then got pushed further to September 2022 only to be pushed further.
This isn’t all; the Lord of the Rings – Gollum launch coincides with the AAA title release of the next installment in the Final Fantasy series – i.e., Final Fantasy 16 and other well-known games which can make things difficult for Lords of the Rings – Gollum.
Now, onto the trailer of the video game that came out, which showcases cinematic gameplay and characters of the game.
The trailer also shows the protagonist, i.e., Gollum, who is seen fighting with enemies and escaping in the footage.
The trailer at the end leaves fans wanting more of it, and as the trailer ends, it reveals the date when the game is coming out & credits for developers & publishers.
“A previously untold story about an anti-hero with two personalities. The players control two main characters in this title: The good Smegol and the cunning Gullum. The player choices how the game will unfold; it is up to the players to decide whether Gollum’s dark side will take over or whether there is a spark of a reason left in Smegol,” reads the trailer description

As mentioned above, the LOTR Gollum coincides with the Final Fantasy 16 release. Well, this is likely one of those situations where a game is competing against other prominent titles, such as Street fighter 6 and Diablo 4, to name a few.
This has caused frustration for the Lord of the Rings franchise fans, as this could lead to the universe dying out right after its release.
Now it is worth mentioning that the Lord of the Rings franchise has a number of five titles up in its development which Nacon revealed in its financial report.
These titles are supposedly coming before the end of the 2023/24 financial year if of course there are no further delays or if any of them gets postponed. Now four out of five of these upcoming Lord of the Rings titles have been confirmed yet.
Alongside the Lords of Rings: Gollum, the other titles that are there in development & will come out eventually – The Lord of Rings: Return to Moria, Lord of the Rings: Heros of Middle Earth, and an unmanned title in collaboration between the Private Division and Weta Workshop is in developed, but there’s not much known about it yet.
Lord of the Rings: Gollum is an upcoming action-adventure video game developed by Daedalic Entertainment and is co-published by Daedalic Entertainment & Nacon. The game will be available on PlayStation 5 & 4, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
