When you’re ready to explore a new world in Grand Theft Auto V, there are a lot of different fun things to do.
You can go on missions, run around and cause some mayhem, or just take in the beautiful scenery that Los Santos has to offer.
However, if none of that sounds appealing to you and you’re looking for something a little more immersive, then RP servers are just what you need.
GTA RP servers allow you to have complete control over your character as they interact with other players’ characters.
You can be whoever or whatever you want—you can be an honest citizen going about their day or even a criminal robbing banks! The possibilities are nearly endless when it comes to role-playing within GTA V.
There is no limit on how many RP servers there are in GTA V either; there are so many options available for players looking for something new.
That’s why we came up with this rundown of the best GTA RP servers that you should consider trying at least once:
What’s GTA RP in General?
GTA RP is best described as Grand Theft Auto V meets The Sims. Yes, really.
I know what you’re thinking: how could a game that feeds off of the chaos of shooting and stealing be transformed into a virtual world of *gasp* rules and *double gasp* following those rules?
Think about it this way: in GTA V single-player mode, you can pretty much do whatever you want—you can go on killing sprees, steal cars, go to strip clubs—basically anything that you would see in an R-rated movie.
Then there’s GTA RP: players join servers hosted by FiveM instead of choosing the typical “Online” option.
Once they’ve joined a server, they have to assume the role of a character with their own backstory and motivations.
Players are expected to behave as if they are playing as themselves in the real world—so no running over pedestrians or robbing banks (at least not without consequences).
Each server has its own rulebook but most ban violence between players (ouch).
The Best GTA RP Servers to Join Now
1. Eclipse RP
If you’re looking for an advanced, immersive role-playing experience that allows you to build your character and interact with other players, this is a great server.
Eclipse RP was established quite recently, so it’s considered a fairly new server.
However, since its inception, it has grown significantly in terms of the number of players as well as the features offered by the server.
There are some rules that must be followed on the server: no harassment, no hacking or cheating, no trolling, and no racism or hate speech allowed.
Impersonating Staff members is not permitted either. Additionally, advertising is strictly prohibited; if you’re caught doing so you’ll be banned from the server and may also face a ban on all Eclipse servers.
2. Mafia City RP
Mafia City RP is a relatively well-populated server with a good community, perhaps because it has a very high quality of roleplaying.
This server is great for people who want to experience the best of GTA V roleplaying without having to do a bunch of work themselves.
It’s also great for people who like weapons and gangs that are different from those in real life since it will give you an opportunity to try out new things that are still realistic enough to be based on reality.
It’s an excellent choice if you’re looking for realism, as well as customization and variety in your GTA V roleplaying experience.
3. GTA World RP
If you’re looking for a new RP server, GTA World is worth a shot. It’s brand new, but with the hype it has generated so far, it seems like this server will be around for a long time. The roleplay is realistic, more so than many of its competitors.
There are rules on top of rules, which is great if you want to play in an immersive environment with lots of different activities to choose from. The downside here is that there’s just too much going on at once.
If you’re easily overwhelmed by detailed systems that take time and effort to learn, you may want to skip this one and come back when the community has started taking things down a notch. If you’re looking for a friendly community mixed with quality RP features, look no further.
This world has everything an aspiring criminal or officer could dream of!
4. Lucid City RP
Lucid City offers an experience unlike any other on this list. With a custom map and a custom script, the creators of Lucid City have managed to carve out their own little slice of GTA Online while building something completely unique.
The goal of Lucid City is to create a realistic roleplaying experience in Los Santos, with players encouraged to play their own part in the city’s criminal underworld.
Your character can be whatever you want them to be: a police officer, detective, firefighter, working-class citizen, or high-paid criminal—the choice is yours.
Of course, if you just want to mess around with friends that’s perfectly fine too. The community is friendly and welcoming to newcomers and features plenty of content creators as well as some notable members from GTA Online itself including FaZe Clan member Cloakzy.
NoPixel is a server that’s been around since 2014, so they’ve had plenty of time to hone their craft.
However, this server has only recently skyrocketed to popularity with the release of the Rockstar Games Launcher and the subsequent availability of GTAV on PC.
This increase in popularity has attracted some top streamers to host their live streams on NoPixel, such as xQc, summit1g, Lirik, and many more.
The combination of experienced RP developers and a large player count make for an exciting gaming experience on NoPixel.
Twitch RP is a GTA 5 roleplaying community with a population of just over 3,000 players and growing. As the name would suggest, Twitch RP is connected to the wide world of streaming, meaning you may encounter some recognizable names while playing – though it’s worth noting that most folks here are just looking to have fun.
The server has a dedicated team of administrators and moderators who keep things running smoothly, so don’t be surprised if you see them pop up in-game from time to time.
Twitch RP’s staff goes above and beyond to make sure everyone feels welcome and has a good time, explaining how things work early on for new players who aren’t already familiar with the ins and outs of roleplay servers.
Once you’ve downloaded the required mods and connected your Discord account to Twitch (as described in our Joining an RP server section), head over to Twitch RP’s official website.
Here you’ll find everything you need to get started – including maps showing off all the key locations in Los Santos as well as links to videos that give an overview of what’s expected from players while they’re on Twitch RP’s servers.
7. DOJ Roleplay
This is a server for more advanced role players and streamers. The roleplay is intense and the community is pretty competitive, so if you’re a casual player or if you’re looking to get your feet wet with roleplaying, this isn’t the server for you.
DOJ has been around for a long time, which means the community will be fairly established but could also mean it’s not as open to new people as some of the other servers on this list. The events are frequent and are always fun.
The server excels at providing engaging content for its players. They have a website (which also features some pretty great art) that keeps track of their leaderboard rankings and lets players apply to join jobs like Police Officer or Firefighter in-game through the site.
While they do have a whitelist application process that’s only accessible via their Discord server (again, we can’t stress enough how important it is to have Discord), they foster an inclusive environment by not allowing stream sniping or cheating of any kind.
8. The Family RP
The server is based on the GTA V Roleplay mod and has been around since the early days of the mod’s release.
It’s one of the largest servers out there, with a lot of active players who are always looking for new members to join their ranks.
You can choose between playing as a law enforcement officer like police officers or firefighters, or getting into some criminal activity yourself by becoming a gang member or thief.
The Family RP is great because it has so many opportunities for players to engage in whatever activity they want and make friends along the way.
9. Orange County RP
Orange County RP is a relatively new server, but it’s growing in popularity quickly. It has a solid community of good players and an attentive staff team.
Orange County RP is packed with roleplay opportunities, whether you want to be a police officer or criminal, firefighter or doctor.
There are also lots of good features like being able to get married on this server. The only downside is that the players can be annoying sometimes. Orange County RP will keep you entertained for a long time, though.
10. New Day RP
New Day RP is an RP server with a unique take on the GTA RP genre. The stakes are higher, the roleplaying is more intense, and there’s a greater focus on immersion than you tend to see in other servers. When you first step into the game, it’s like taking a step into another world.
The community has more of a serious tone, but it doesn’t sacrifice fun or whimsy for that purpose. It’s still very much a GTA RP game at its core—just one with a darker edge and greater potential for complex roleplay.
The atmosphere on New Day RP makes it stand out from similar games in the genre. There’s no shortage of adventure to be found here—you can be a cop or criminal, your local politician or someone who wants them thrown out of office—but the possibilities don’t end there.
It’s all about answering this question: if you could live any life you wanted, what would it be? For some players that means running around town causing chaos; for others, it means setting up shop as their own business owners and bringing their best ideas to life.
11. Project Homecoming
If you can’t stand the heat of the other servers we’ve mentioned, get out of the kitchen and into Project Homecoming.
This server is a mix between an RP server and a police simulation. It uses the popular LSPDFR mod for PC gamers that allows you to play as a police officer in GTA V.
This server features some really neat systems, including one where if you are killed by another player, you can spend money to bail yourself out of jail after being processed (arrested). If your character dies, they stay dead until the next day.
This gives the server some real tension and forces players to not only question their actions but also to complete objectives and tasks in order to progress their characters. There is also a strong roleplaying community that encourages players to use non-lethal means.
Moreover, the streamers playing on this server are very entertaining and usually have large followings that make it easy for new players to join in on their gameplay sessions with little fuss or confusion.
So there you have it: the best GTA RP servers for GTA 5 on PC. We’ve gone into detail about what kinds of server roles, missions, and experiences all these different servers offer, so hopefully you’ll be able to find the perfect one for your playing style.
